Fall 2011 Poster, designed by Michelle Tu

I am Michelle Tu, a fourth year in Design|Media Arts. Within the selections for the concert this Fall, I found unpredictable elements that occurred throughout each piece- from the moments of silence, inserts of vocal lyrics, to spontaneous bursts of notes at various stages of the songs. I wanted to portray the same effect visually through individual type treatments for the 'Contempo Flux' title. Each letter was printed out and modified through various formats such as crumpling, burning, taping, bleaching, etc., then scanned and rearranged digitally. I wanted to give each letter its own personality through different texture treatments on the type and allowed it to move freely throughout the poster to convey the flow of the song compositions.
