Spring 2017 Poster, designed by Connie Chang
Before starting the design process, I was fortunate to watch several groups rehearse early in the quarter. I was especially interested in what director Gloria Cheng said about the work of Elliott Carter: that one should imagine being at a party with multiple conversations taking place. She advised each member of the orchestra to maintain their own rhythms––that it would all come together with very interesting textures. I tried to convey the various elements and rhythmic complexity in the music with the forms and symbols in my poster, also considering the context of the orchestra performing in the spring season.
