Natalee Decker (they/them) is a Chicago born Los Angeles-based artist currently pursuing an undergraduate degree at UCLA in Design|Media Arts and Disability Studies. Via a multidisciplinary practice, they investigate disability aesthetics, technology, and crip fantasy. The uclaFLUX Fall 2021 poster incorporates an abstraction of sheet music, layered reverberations, and punctuated pops. While visiting a FLUX practice session, Natalee was captivated not only by the expert sound, but also the aesthetics of the hand drawn musical notation. They were especially drawn to a segment of large cascading rippled lines connecting blocks to arrows directed at hatched waves. Though inexplicable to someone without musical knowledge, it exemplified experimentalism which Natalee pursues in their own design work.
