I was struck by the darkness and unexpected jabs and movements of the pieces I heard. Their moodiness, impulsivity and sparseness, paired with the geographic, political, social and historical context of the music inspired this monochromatic design with the gritty background and elegant text flowing out of the bell of the french horn. The setting of the music, specifically that of composer György Ligeti, evoked inspiration from constructivist design aesthetic which was loosely applied while incorporating hints of a sheet music aesthetic including the large flowing "f" for "forte" seen in printed music in place of the "f" of "Flux". The aim of this composition was to capture the rugged, sparse, moody and elegant tones of the music.
Jen Agosta is a mixed-media artist and producer from Portland living and working in Los Angeles working with a wide range of media art forms including photography, music composition and production, graphic and communication design, digital and tangible interactive design, and kinetic objects. She is graduating from UCLA's Design Media Arts program June 2018.
