Knowing very little about Contempo Flux and what kind of music it entailed, I wanted to have a better understanding of what I was designing for and how I wanted to represent it. I had the fortunate opportunity to sit in on one of the concert rehearsals and found that the music was constantly in moments of stress and tension. At the same time, however, it maintained a sort of fluidity and cooperation between the different instruments. It was hard to capture
this complex conversation in a
representation, but in the end I fell in love with the beauty of visual forms created by mixing paint. In the end I appropriated a freshly marbled piece of paper (by artist and friend Hannah Lee) and manipulated its form and quality in order to create the image in the background.
